Posted June 30, 2011 15:01:00 The family of a British backpacker found lying on a Sydney road in the early hours of last Sunday have appealed for a taxi driver to come forward.
Daniel Moore caught a taxi with a friend from the Sydney CBD to Pine Street in Manly, in the northern beaches.
His friend got out of the taxi about 3:00am (AEST) but Mr Moore did not.
Soon afterwards a police patrol found him lying on the road nearby at the corner of Pittwater Road and Collingwood Street.
The 21-year-old remains in the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries.
His parents have now arrived from the UK.
Mr Moore's mother, Valerie Rutter, was inconsolable at a media conference held to appeal for the taxi driver to come forward.
Police are not sure if the incident was a hit-and-run.
